Getting the vaccine is easy, but if you don’t like surprises, here’s a rundown on the whole process.

Make an appointment with a GP or nurse today (any medical clinic will do - it doesn't have to be your family clinic).

Ideally, ask for the HPV vaccine when you make your appointment.

After your shot you will be asked to hang around for 15 minutes – this is done for any injection you get at the doctors, it’s just to make sure you do not have a reaction of any kind.

You will still need two more shots - the second dose is usually 2 months after the first shot, and the third dose is usually 6 months after the first shot.

Many medical clinics offer a text reminder service to remind you when your next one is due. If not, the doctor or nurse will give you dates for your diary.

If you forget an appointment and miss the third dose it's still possible to have it up to a year after your first shot.
